matrix(Ring,RingElement) -- make a matrix from a ring element

Description

i1 : matrix 48

o1 = | 48 |

              1       1
o1 : Matrix ZZ  <-- ZZ
i2 : R = QQ[x,y]

o2 = R

o2 : PolynomialRing
i3 : matrix(x^2 - y^2)

o3 = | x2-y2 |

             1      1
o3 : Matrix R  <-- R

Specify a ring R to get a matrix over R instead of the ring of f.

i4 : matrix(QQ, 48)

o4 = | 48 |

              1       1
o4 : Matrix QQ  <-- QQ
i5 : matrix(R, 48)

o5 = | 48 |

             1      1
o5 : Matrix R  <-- R
