B]Zli #4 Report Directly to the Competition Reviews? Or just want to see the Competition Results? Hey, this time, we've learnt something for the preparations: Start in time. And as we applied this to our B]Zli preps, we even found the time to dinner somewhere and to flirt with some shop assistants right before B]Zli started (could YOU imagine a better beginning for a party? Okok, if somebody had just offered me a pentium...) Well, but let me tell something about B]Zli shopping tours. This time, it's been Friday afternoon when I went into Shoppyland (where you can gett every- thing you desire (atleast you're told so)), filling my shopping car with just about 40 litres of Ice Tea, some 36 pizzas and ingrediences for the other evil food we offered (like badsmelling socks, Jobe!). And now I liked you to see the face of the women at the cash desk when learning there were quite many pizzas in my car: "Just give me one of each and tell me how many you've got" - "Thanx, no prob. Here, of each kind there are twelve pizzas."- "ok, twel... TWELVE??". Too bad I've forgotten my camera. And we not even had problems transporting all this food and nerd stuff (we brought some equipment with us, too) into the hotel, as the hotel assistants were really handsome in helping us to get everything down. But maybe they were just fearing to loose their good reputee and therefore were pissed off by the people passing by and watching stupidly at the pile of ice tea, coke, pizzas, cables, disks and computers. So, we were ready BEFORE the party started (just for this time, we promise to be late, next time. Ok?). And then people came. And came. And came. I've calculated with about 40 or 50 people, but finally there was a total of sixty-two (!) attenders at the B]Zli! It's great to see that so many people are interested in meeting sceners and it'll be a great motivation to make forthcoming B]Zli's get bigger, better and funnier! I think B]Zli #4 was the best B]Zli so far, as just everything was far better than the times before: We had nearly enough coke, there was a BIG bunch of attenders, people were friendly and happy, the network was running mostly (Thanks for your great job, Gargamel!), there was just one power failure (and NO, the microwave was OFF at this time), there were many competition contributions and the bistro was all well-loved (possibly just 'coz the prizes have lowered...), there was enough space for everyone, and at last: the entrance fee has been reduced. So, let me tell you something about the competitions, then. This time, we broke almost all competition records so far, we had most contributions in all disciplines (only the prize money didn't beat the records. Buah). Graphics Competition I can just give you some brief impressions, but I strongly recommend YOU to leech the graphics pack (BZ04GFX.ZIP) and have a look at the works on your own. Nuker's lady of dreams is a great proof that the ANSi scene is not dead and that you can do real great things just in Text mode. Triton's lion is a technically well-down robo-lion in Triton's usual flame-yellow-red picture fashion. Then we had once again a contribution from Cooper, a really cool- looking graffity-style (hard to describe) ... picture. Next was "Poor me a glass" from MiG, a technically perfectly rendered style study (as my design prof had called it), but maybe a bit too "cold" (it remembered Radio24 to an interrogation room). Then was Snake of Filip, a not-yet heard-of newcomer, surprising with a fresh flair of render-ideas. It's a pity that fred's handdrawn picture, "citizen of a new world" got ranked last, as it's technically quite well done. But maybe people don't give points for technique but only for the first impression (and it's hard to compete with rendered pictures looking more professional, I know. But as there are too few compo entries, we can't split up the competition). The results will be listed in the end of the report. Music Competition This time, both earlier main competitors missed at the compo [Ed: Agreed on fighting elsewhere, then?]. But hey, that's been a cool chance not to get bored by BB's lead-samples and Phred's noise-level complaints, then! [Ed: Sorry for the attack... couldn't resist! ;) ] Well, as I'm a musical nerd, I can't say much about the tunes. Just that Gimli's Crystal Bells is very good (for we haven't heard much of him yet - think that's going to change now!) and that Duffy's and Knuddel's tunes are technically well-made and earned their rankings! Zodi's Innocent reflex is somewhat strange, and Yon's Deadline Suxx didn't find much appreciatement in the public. But let Big Bear tell you more about the tunes (check Swiss releases, then). Intro Competition Not much to tell you, either - just a BIG sorry for the usual deadline post- pone (We'll try to stick to it next time! - haha, fooled you!). Notice that Smileys Revenge has not (yet?) been released, but it's been a cool produc- tion featuring neat ideas. For more text, better stick to the release reviews, there's more to get mocked of. And something to tell you: Once again, we gained some money out of B]Zli #4 entrance fees. Please notice that this has not been planned as we had calculated with 40 pay-visitors and you exceeded our best hopes. The refunds will be invested completely for the benefit of the scene (as a support to bustrips, network equipment, deficite guarantee etc). Please notice that B]Zli #5 will take place somwehen in the end of June or in the beginning of July (get BUENZ05.ZIP infopack), and make sure you'll be able to attend B]Zli #5 !!
