E L E V A T O R ' 9 9 [ the second floor ] Ylivieska, Finland 15-17.1.1999 Invitation v1.0 1. WHAT? Elevator is a computer-sceneparty, which will be now organized for the second time. Last year everything worked perfectly, and no problems were encountered. This year the organizers aim again at an operative party (considering the people's needs), where no-one should have any complaining. That's why we could gladly hear your wishes. Drop us an e-mail. 2. WHERE? Elevator will be organized again at the Ylivieska upper level comprehensive school (yl„aste). Ylivieska is a city of 13.500 residents located at the southern areas of Oulu province. Distance to the nearest bigger cities, Oulu & Kokkola is 130km & 80km. Ylivieska lies by the main railroad, where you can get also via direct railway connection from Iisalmi twice a day. The city center lies at a distance of 1 km, where you can find for example 6 bars, 2 groceries, 2 pizzerias, 3 grills, 1 hamburger restaurant, briefly said everything you need. A smaller grocery can be founded 200m:s from the partyplace. NOTE!: We will arrange signs by the sides of the roads and to the railway station (1500m), so that everyone could find their way to the partyplace at the first attempt. Taxi-stand is next to the railway station. 3. WHEN? The date is 15-17.1.1999. Based on the information available at the writing moment of this text, there will be no bigger parties at the turn of the year neither in Finland nor in neighbouring countries (except TP8 in Denmark). So we will gladly welcome you and your friends. 4. WHAT COSTS? The entrance fee is 100 FIM (around 20$). For value for your money, we will give you a badge (which allows you to enter) and a voting-id. The purpose of this party is NOT to yield any profit to organizers. All money left after deducting expenses will be used for prizes. You may also inform your coming in advance, when you pay 80 FIM (16$). E-mail us your name. When you arrive, tell your name to the booking-clerk. Naturally we will let girls and foreigners enter for free. Girls do not get a badge. Foreigners, bring your passport with you. 5. FACILITIES - Tables for 100 computers (more will be arranged, if needed). Room for MUCH more people. - Enough electricity. However, bring your own extension cords. - Really quiet sleeping rooms, not next to partyhall. - Brand new showers directly next to the partyhall. Even own one for girls. - Very high quality PA-system. We guarantee that the organizers will NOT break your ears by playing music too loud, so you won't need any earplugs during the competitions. We won't also play any extra-music, as there probably will be enough noise already. - Twisted pair LAN for everyone. It will be able to borrow and buy cables from us if you don't have one on your own. If the TP-ports run out, the rest will be connected using common BNC-cables. These we will not supply. A Linux-based server. Also cheap network cards will be sold (under 200 FIM). - Big enough screen, where partycam *LIVE*. - Network based voting. For excitement, votes will be counted one vote at a time. You will be able to watch the counting either on the screen or on your monitor thru the network (you'll see the competition you want). A personal ID-number will be included in every badge, so the classic votedisk larking will be impossible. - A caf‚ with fair prices. - Pizzas from Kotipizza will be delivered directly to the partyplace. The price will be 30 FIM (no profit for us). When there is at least 10 orders waiting, it will be sent. 6. RULES - It's unnecessary to prohibit people from drinking alcohol, however DON'T do it inside or in close proximity to entrance. - Smoking inside is absolutely prohibited. - The organizers are not responsible of any stolen or broken equipment in no way. In other words, you bring your stuff on your own responsibility. - Everyone assumes the responsibility of any broken things by himself. - The organizers have the right to remove a person from the partyplace if this has broken any of these rules or Finnish laws. - The organizers have also the right to modify these rules. - By attending Elevator'99 you acknowledge these rules at the same time. 7. COMPETITIONS NOTE! MP3-competition for the very first time in Finland! - PC / AMIGA DEMO (combined) * The maximum size in executable form is 6 MB (6.291.456 bytes). * Either in DOS- or Win32-format (PC). * Demo must not save anything to the hard disk. * Pure animations are not allowed. * No sound-mode is required. * If the demo needs any user interaction, we would like to see someone from the group doing it. - PC / AMIGA INTRO (combined) * The maximum size in executable form is 64 kB (65.536 bytes). * Either in DOS- or Win32-format (PC). * Intro must not save anything to the hard disk * No sound-mode is required * If the intro needs any user interaction, we would like to see someone from the group doing it. - MULTICHANNEL MUSIC * The maximum length is 4 minutes. * The maximum number of channels is 32. * The maximum size for the module is 1.5 MB (1.572.864 bytes). * The formats allowed: XM, IT (without packing), S3M, MOD (will be played on PC using the player & soundcard you want). * Only one song per artist. - MP3 MUSIC * The maximum length is 4 minutes (or will be played 4 minutes). * No size-limit. * Will be played using the newest Winamp. * Only one song per artist. * Attach a list of the equipment you used. * Purpose: e.g. your song is too large for multichannel compo, you have moved to MIDI or just have kept fun with your friends and incidentally produced something useful. But remember, this is a MUSIC competition. - GRAPHICS * The maximum resolution is 640x480 with 24 bits of color. * Any common format will do. * Scanned, ripped or raytraced pictures are not allowed. * The competition version must not contain your signature. You may additionally submit a release version with signature. * We will show the resolution on the screen before the picture. * Only one picture per artist. * Will be shown either on PC or Amiga (your choice). - WILD * Everything is allowed! * Videos in VHS-format, cassettes will be returned. * The maximum length is 10 minutes. * We supply you with normal audio and video connections. * We hope VERY MUCH also other kinds of acts than videos. Livemusic, danceperformances, choral singing... Contact us if you are participating with not-video. Entries must be delivered on diskette(s), CD-ROM, or ZIP-diskette to the infodesk. Another way is to upload them directly to the FTP-server. However, the application sheet (available from the infodesk) must be delivered to the infodesk even if you used the latter option. In Wild-compo we will use VHS-tapes (when it is a question of video). We will not return the ordinary diskettes, but the others we will if you remember to inquire them back. You will be able to test your demo or intro before the actual compo on the competition machine at the points of time reserved to them. Every contribution will be reviewed by a jury, which will consist of two organizers and four visitors. Jury will treat productions anonymously (as far as possible) and will choose a suitable amount of contributions to the actual competition. Jury has the right to disqualify a production, which contains bad taste, copyrights, racism or illegality. We reserve the right to burn a low-cost CD-ROM containing all productions. We have no assurance regarding this. 8. PRIZES There will be 6 competitions with money prizes. We try to arrange some extrastuff to other compos (fastcompos, surprises). Winners of those 6 competitions will also get nice cups. The money will be paid after the party, not at the partyplace. SCHEDULE Everything in Elevator will be on schedule. Except cases, where the previous competition overruns the next one. The final schedule might not be like this, check out our www-pages for a poll regarding this.
